The Life and Times of Blargen Land

My holidays so far: Maths homework, Majora’s Mask, Historical Investigation, BIT.TRIP BEAT (pictured), Wii Fit, Driving.

Bit Trip Beat is the first WiiWare game that I have bought (I’ve bought 3 other Virtual Console games), clocking in at 600 Wii Points (AU$9). Its a rhythm game at heart, measuring as a mix between pong and breakout, combined with a variety of chiptune beats. It truly is a joy to play - especially if you’re playing well.

Playing well, unfortunately, is exactly the problem. The game features three tracks (levels), each between 10 and 15 minutes long. Compared to pong itself, the action is frantic and surprisingly difficult, especially for sombody as completely unco-ordinated as me. A disappointing oversight is the fact that if your score didn’t reach the high scores table, then the game doesn’t save your progress and allow you to play the next track the next time you play. Typically, my score above wasn’t quite a high score.

BIT.TRIP BEAT is well worth a purchase, and no doubt I haven’t explained it very well, so here is a video.

Happy holidays, everyone.
