The Life and Times of Blargen Land

While wandering around the internet yesterday, I found intruiging news of the development of remakes of the Pokemon games Gold and Silver, called Heart Gold and Soul Silver, due to be released Autumn 2009 in Japan.

The games appear to use the same graphics engine as Pokemon Diamond, Pearl (and now Platinum), in the same way that Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green used the same graphics engine as Sapphire and Ruby.

Little else is known about the games at this point, and these few seconds of gameplay from the very start of the game, featured on a Japanese breakfast TV show (by the look of it) are about the only footage currently on the internet. Still, it looks alright, and considering that Pokemon: Silver version was the first game I ever owned, it’s a bit of a Treasured Childhood Memory Gameā„¢ for me.

The coolest thing about the video for me is that this is indicative of absolutely every single breakfast TV show (of which there are several) in Japan: A video takes up the centre of the screen, the presenters have a small box in the bottom corner, and every big thing they say appears in writing at the bottom of the screen. Its a really awesome format, and is quite entertaining when you’re trying to figure out what they are saying.

I miss you, Japan.
